page one Can anyone be buried at Mutumbi Cemetery & Remembrance Park? A. Yes. The cemetery is open to all and provides burial areas for all faiths, religions, cultures and traditions. Q. How are the graves laid out? A. There are graves facing East and West and for Muslims facing Mecca. Graves can be laid out to personal requirements in private burial gardens. Q. Can I design my own burial garden? A. Yes. You can design and create your own burial garden and your own garden on individual child and adult graves. All designs have to be approved and follow our environmental and garden design guide lines to ensure we have natural harmony within the gardens. Q. Can a family dig the grave? A. No. All grave digging and back filling has to be carried out by CVRP staff. There are a number of reasons for this including Health and Safety issues, ensuring it is dug to the correct depth and size and the burial plot is left in a neat and orderly condition. Q. Can a family help your grave diggers? A. Yes, providing this is organised in advance. They can help dig the first 1m and help back fill. This can help in the grieving process to participate in the event; however there is no reduction in the cost of grave digging. Q. How much does grave digging cost? A. A standard fee of K100,000 for every one. Q. Do you allow graves to be mounded? A. No. If graves are dug to the correct depth there is no reason for mounding. It is actually against the LCC Cemetery By-Laws to mound graves. They are supposed to be maintained level with the surrounding ground. Q. If you do not allow mounds how do you know where the grave is? A. We allow a small mound to 1 foot high to allow for settlement over the first 6 months. Each grave is numbered and marked out in accordance with our master surveyed plans. Even if the marker is moved we can find each grave by surveying.
