Radio Talk on Ghosts

A listener contacted the radio station to enquire if I had ever seen any ghosts in my cemeteries.

The issue around ghosts is one which affects people in different ways – many people claim they have seen or felt the presence of ghosts or felt some strange feeling in a cemetery or at home or at some special place.

I cannot say I have actually seen or felt the presence of a ghost I am not saying they do not exist or that people do not experience special feelings.

I have a different story and will come back to it in a moment.

Unfortunately we have all been fed stories of ghosts, from the earliest days of our lives, our parents have told us stories of strange people, animals, ghosts and others that live in places we should not go.
Ghosts and similar have been used by our parents to tell us to stay away from dangerous places.

Ghosts are associated with cemeteries and cemeteries with ghosts.

Books and movies over the years have told and shown us of the dangers to be found in cemeteries – we have all seen images in children’s and adult stories of a hand coming out of a grave and catching your leg, or of some evil spirit rising from the grave to create havoc amongst the living.

But in the end all these evil beings are defeated by some good person - often by someone holding a cross and forcing them back into the grave or waiting until sun rise, to turn the spirit into dust.

The recent world famous Harry Potter stories are all based around witches, wizards and ghosts – they are stories - however they leave very strong images in our mind and it is these images we see and feel, when we find ourselves in a challenging situation.
