Mulie bwanche - Zi Komo cwam belie Mwenya.

A brief reminder of the update news for those who were not able to listen on Wednesday.

As you heard at the start I have been trying to learn some local language and I do apologise to everyone for my poor attempt. I am also trying to learn some Soli words to go with our new name – Mutumbi – a Soli name given to us from her Royal Highness and symbolises a large tree under which people gathered.

Update on Mutumbi – On Wednesday we briefly outlined some of the staff changes at Mutumbi

  • We have a new general manger Johan Richter who many of you will meet over the coming months.
  • Janet Mukono our cemetery manager is completing her final MBA exams this coming week and will be with us on the radio once she has recovered from her efforts.
  • Zifa our Education manager is developing the schools programme and education facilities and has asked me to remind all school teacher’s listening of our teacher’s workshops in October. Please contact him for further information.
  • Construction work has continued to move on with more viewing shelters built and a new Park office.
  • Roads and other facilities are being built.
  • Fencing and other security facilities are being installed.

  • The gardens are being developed and plants being planted out.
  • All in all - the whole situation is changing every week.

All the men and women are working hard to create a very different environment for everyone who visits and uses the cemetery and Park.

We also invite community groups to come and help. For example a local R C church choir group have been helping with grass clearing and preparing gardens.

We agree and pay the group a good sum of money which goes to help their church choir and community in exchange for helping us create what is a community project.

One of the conditions of working at the Park and cemetery is that the choir have to also sing for us and help bring the Park alive with music.

They have been helping clear our open air cathedral - a special natural space we are creating in the bush – a very large area which will be able to hold over 12,000 people for remembrance services and religious services.

Churches of any faith will be able to book and use the space for services and special open air events, weekend camps etc.
